Michael Mitsas is a Melbourne-based self-taught artist whose practice spans painting, drawing and mixed media. Influenced by primitive art, Abstract Expressionism, mythology and symbolism, he has developed a distinctive visual language that explores the relationship between instinct, nature and the human psyche. Through vibrant colour, expressive mark-making and symbolic forms, Mitsas creates works that invite viewers to reconnect with imagination, emotion and the creative impulse. His practice is driven by the belief that creativity is an innate human quality and that art has the capacity to deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
